Ponyboy Curtis
Ponyboy Curtis is the main character in the novel, "The Outsiders". I have chosen this character because he has been through some tough stuff and he has a lot of emotions that are sometimes showed, and sometimes not. Ponyboy is a genuine person but not husky. He actually cares about people’s feelings, unlike some of the Greasers but I believe that Ponyboy is hanging out with the wrong crowd even though they are like his family and he does get in his fair share of trouble. Curtis does not have a lot of etiquette due to the fact he was raise by his two brothers. My relation to Ponyboy is that I am loyal to my friends and I do think of the right thing to do just like him. He reminds me of a villain turning to the good side due to the fact that he helps and cares about people while trying to act tough.
In the beginning of the novel the reader may believe that Ponyboy Curtis is a ”no good up to trouble” boy getting into a much violence with some very vicious people, such as when he walked home alone from a movie, which wasn't the smartest idea. "I didn't think! I forgot! That's all I hear out of you! Can't you think of anything?" this is a quote said by Darry in the beginning of the book meaning that Ponyboy was very irresponsible and foolish.
Over the course of the novel Ponyboy really grows up. "I read about you in the paper." Randy a Socs told Ponyboy this because he was in the paper for a hero like performance that was unexpected and unlike him. Now, at the end of the book he is back in school, is much more grateful and kind to his brothers. Now that Ponyboy has changed to respect his brothers, not fight with them, he can now live a less stressful life.
Ponyboy Curtis should now be named Ponyman due to the ending of the book, Ponyboy has gone through death, hurt, failure, and heroism yet maintaining self control. All through his life he was looked down upon, now he is looked up to. "No more fights okay Ponyboy?" This quote is showing how Ponyboy is changing for the better and when he is older I believe that he will become very wise.
"The Outsiders" has many experiences that Ponyboy has been through. For me personally I have learned from his mistakes or victories. I have learned the when you are loyal to someone and or your friends, you get rewards and always have someone having your back. Plus trust and respect your family because no matter what you always can count on them and to be there for you.
